What is the Evelyn Street CLP Project

The Evelyn Street project plays a key role as part of the Lewisham Council strategy to manage and reduce the effects of additional road traffic and related activities directly resulting from the Deptford area regeneration.

To reduce the impact of air pollution from traffic congestion, the GLA identified Deptford Church Street/Broadway/Evelyn Street as an Air Quality Focus Area. The Council was successful in a bid, to develop a Framework Construction Logistic Plan that seeks to manage the impact of construction traffic from developments using the Evelyn Street corridor.

How is it being monitored?

To derive and ultimately validate our traffic easing strategies, it’s important to gain a full understanding of the supply chain logistics. Lewisham Council aim at monitoring the following site operations;

  • Transport away from and to the site
  • Forecasts of likely trip generation
  • Identifying the potential phased impact of delivery and waste removal trips on the road network and environment.
  • Vehicle utilisation (% fill by volume or weight) for deliveries or waste disposal.

To compliment these values Lewisham Council will also measure the key environmental indicators emitted from vehicles. These includeCO2(Carbon Dioxide),  NOx(Nitrogen Oxides) and PM( Particulate Matter). The volume of pollutant emitted varies depending on the vehicle age, engine type, size and distance travelled.

How can this impact policy and decision making?

Through expert data analytics and consultation with academics and industry leaders Lewisham Council will be able to optimise various transport and logistical operations.

  • Reduce unnecessary Road Transport Movements
  • Stagger supply to reduce the amount of trucks in the same place at the same time
  • Cut vehicle waiting, idling and traffic
  • Effective routing for the high traffic areas
  • Suggestions for alternative cleaner machinery and vehicles.
